Look up popular advertisements in both print and non-print media.
ReplyDeleteMen are always portrayed as the best in all the work they do and women are still taken as home makers only
DeleteThere are ads like a girl drooling over men's underpants while the man is in the gym and on the other end we ads where a mother runs to keep her son motivated for running. So I guess we do find a shift in our perspective a lomg way to go.
DeleteDetergent powder advertisements often women are seen washing clothes .Gender stereotypes
DeleteHouse hold work are generally addvertisement is done by woman and car bike are advertised by man. biasness is also shown in kids cloth colours also
DeleteCAR ADDS ARE GENDER BAISED
DeleteBeauty products, fashion are mainly endorsed by females whereas cars, bikes, acts of physical strength, are portrayed by men.
DeleteDetergent powders, shampoos, also feature mainly women whereas cologne, deodorants are identified with men .
DeleteCooking Oils Adds show only women cooking in the kitchen as if it their only place. Housekeeping products show women as the ONLY one responsible for cleaning of the house. Bike Adds show only men in action whereas females are used just for adding some glamour.
DeleteHouse hold work are generally addvertisement is done by woman and car bike are advertised by man. biasness is also shown in kids cloth colours
DeleteBeauty products are generally advertisement is done by woman and car and bike advertisements are done by men.
DeleteMen usually play machoistic roles, whereas women usually are depicted as good mother, good wife a good homemaker, there are gender roles assigned when it comes to advertisment, it shows the dynamics of our society
ReplyDeleteUnless equality of gender is attained by the society, progress and peace will not reach the desired levels. Men and women should be considered as just humans who are capable of any level of education, sports, efficiency of accomplishments, emotions etc leaving the biological parameters aside. No specific choices or roles should be imposed based on genders and this change can be brought about only if gender equality starts from an early stage i.e. home and school.
DeleteMen are usually depicted as the strong gender and women as soft genders and domestic workers, although there has been a shift in mindset in some ads, which should be further promoted
DeleteWomen are expected to leave their homes and adapt to the new environment. Play their roles in the household and work too. Responsibility of workplace and home, at whether she is the CEO of the company at the end of the day she is has the responsibility of the family while the men get tired after work .THE LADY DOESNOT?
ReplyDeleteIt is expected that the women completes the office work along with the household chores , While the men have freedom to just complete the office work and be free from the responsibility of household chores other than buying grocery
ReplyDeleteIn a recent ad, I found a girl showed drooling over men's underpants while the man was in gym. This made me feel sick as are these kind of ads necessary? Whereas my fav ad is the one where a mother runs to keep her son motivated for running. so both kind of cases can be found in media.
ReplyDeleteMen are shown playing machoistic roles while women are depicted as good wife & mother. Why such ads are shown wherein stereotype roles assigned to men and women are broadasted.
ReplyDeleteMost of the adds shown the dynamica of the society that is reflected due to the stereotypic images created in them during the younger days
ReplyDeleteMen are shown to be physically and mentally strong and women are shown to be just dependent on men, weak in nature and projected as dressed up dolls
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteWe find mostly the ads for bikes are done by men and ads for all the kitchen items are done by women.
ReplyDeletewomen are depicted to be doing kitchen work, to be looking beautiful and so on while men are shown to be doing stronger roles, going out computer related work etc
ReplyDeleteWe need to educate the children and parents that there is no differences between girls and boys. We need to eradicate the social concept that the girls are burden and to be married off from the family
ReplyDeleteWe should educate the children that there is no difference between girls and boys. Both are strong in every field.
ReplyDeleteThere are actually very few advertisements that do not feed on gender stereotypes, though due to increasing awareness, that image is gradually changing, but the destination is still far. So whether it be the advertisement of a particular rice brand, kitchen utensils, various aches in the body, one will find women taking up the mantle, and for mobile phones or cement ads, generally men take up the mantle.
ReplyDeleteI m Jhuma Chanda Ghosh. I'm signed in to my google account, yet it shows me as Unknown.
ReplyDeleteLatha Raghu
ReplyDeleteThe advertisement are to a certain extent changing But they do not depict the true image of our society
There are few advertisements where we can find the men doing the household activities. To a certain extent we can feel the change in the society but only in the urban areas. But still the advertisement can play a vital role in showing the women performing all the activities par with the men. Learning process should start from the home.
ReplyDeleteI believe that there is still stereotype roles for men and women in our society. Though in few commercials it is seen men doing the household chores, helping their mother or wife..etc but the reality remains the same. In real women have to manage household work, her children alone wether she is working or not.
ReplyDeleteMen are represented as super achievers, saviours and strong powerful beings.
ReplyDeleteWhile women are projected as soft ,kind , caregivers and beautiful fair skinned creatures
Most advertisement glorify masculinity. But now we can see advertisements which address women's issues and some advertisements are really inspiring
ReplyDeleteAdvertisements play a important role in rural India. They must show men and women play all roles in society so that gender awareness and gender equality are taught to the present generation .
ReplyDeleteWomen are used as the face of many products such as cosmetics, health drinks and food.
ReplyDeleteAs long as the stereotype roles exist in our society , the ads will also remain same. women will be doing the promo ads for beauty products or textiles while men will still shine in their machoistic roles. For some relief, there are a few ads which depicts the other way , where women leading the society and men are supporting it.
ReplyDeletethe advertisement doesnot depict true image of the society.
ReplyDeleteYou are true as it's not everytime women are working, but even men are playing their roles as and when required.
DeleteIn advertisements men play the role of doctors , lawyers engineers and women play the role of homemaker , mother , maid .
ReplyDeleteIn most of the advertisements, women are shown to be wearing revealing clothes .
ReplyDeleteGender bias in medical advertising maybe one factor contributing to differential treatment of men and women by physician.

ReplyDeleteWe should respect women.
ReplyDeleteAll genders should be traeated equally
ReplyDeleteOnly women are shown giving the advertisements of washing clothes (Surf) and utensils. Men are usually promoting sports activities.
ReplyDeleteMen are usually potraited as strong and intelligent. All house hold chores are done by women. Women is shown as depending.Stereotype gender discrimination is clearly shown.
ReplyDeletemen are shown stronger than women
ReplyDeleteMen are rarely shown cooking or cleaning or taking care of the babies in advertisements.
ReplyDeleteWomen can drive a vehicle but everytime the advertisement related to vehicle are being performed by man. Women are generally portrayed in role of very light Vehicle like scooter.
ReplyDeleteThe advertisements of are very streotype. Take a Bournvita advertisement- why do they need to show a mother giving the glass of milk or the mother taking the child for practice? Why can't they show a father doing that?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIn some extent, now a days the messages given in the advertisements are changing, showing equal rights for men and women. Still we find many advertisements which show gender stereotypes. Advertisements can play a major role on gender equality.

ReplyDeleteMedia portrayal of men and women has drawn common concerns among all worldwide for long. There has been a wide range of discussion on its negative or positive portrayal. This discussion has grown wider with the media choices that have bought benefits as well as challenges. Inspite of growing gender awareness and more females in media, the mainstream print media has still been using female images and particularly the glamorous pictures of celebrities for promoting soaps shampoo and other beauty related items. Whereas men are in more for promotion of cars, bikes etc.
ReplyDeleteMedia plays a very crucial role in shaping the outlook of the masses. I do believe that media promotes gender bias.
ReplyDeleteMen are mostly shown as powerful and strong, whereas woman are shown as tender and easily flexible type with not much say in decision making roles.
ReplyDeletePrint media has always shown men in a promising and firm role as compared to women. media has mostly given more importance to men than women.
ReplyDeleteMen and women are assigned equality by God. Sikhs First Guru Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was divine reformer and raised the voice in favour of women.
ReplyDeleteMany Ads show men as more powerful ex Nike, Adidas. This adds to gender stereotyping.
ReplyDeletePrint media plays an important role in promoting gender stereotyping.
ReplyDeleteToday we do find gender stereotypes in advertisements whether it is Print or non print media. All the advertisement on TV or newspaper you will find that fairness cream, hair oil shampoo, kitchen utility products, Home decor, Tooth paste, onitment etc in all these advertisement only womens are there where as you will find men's in the advertisement of suitings, cement , immunity products , etc.So I think so still somewhere even the educated learned minds are having the impact of gender stereotypes, well only making statements that we believe in gender equality is not enough, it has to be implemented .There is a proverb in Hindi which actually match this existing scenario, it is." Kathni aur Karni me fark hota hai "
ReplyDeletewomen showing in pressure cooker ads or kitchen appliances ads
ReplyDeleteWomen in ads of jewellery, Washing soap / powder, Kitchen appliances etc - Stereotyped characters. Men in adds exhibiting their strength
ReplyDeleteWomen are in the ads of household things such as home appliances, cleaning products, make up items and kitchen utensils whereas men play the role of award winner, doctor, engineer etc.
DeleteWomen are always treated less than men. Hardships of the women are not taken into consideration.

ReplyDeleteThe male chauvinism hovers over the media, advertisement in particular which is a reflection of the gender stereotype that has set so deep that even work ethics are compromised. Why adverts for grocery must feature women? Answer is obvious its the collective conscious is still discriminating on the basis of gender. Why adverts for SUVs feature males only? Why must noodles feature kids and mom? Do transgender not consume grocery? Do men not relish noodles? Can't women drive SUVs? Having said that, I must share that the change has begun. The one in which a mentally tough girl changing the flat tyre of the car ,the other in which a mother training her son are silver linings signaling the change has begun. Let's hope the age-old stereotype gives way to gender equity. - Yogesh Singla
ReplyDeleteMen and women should be considered as just humans who are capable of any level of education, sports, efficiency of accomplishments, emotions etc leaving the biological parameters aside. No specific choices or roles should be imposed based on genders
ReplyDeleteMen are considered to be superior and women are always there to show their beauty and make the story interesting. Gender inequity should not be there
ReplyDeleteThe advertisement world has undergone a huge transformation since the time mass media came into existence. nowadays, we see more generalised view of any advertisement. Mothers are depicted as motivators. Role biasness has decreased greatly promoting more gender equality in the society.
ReplyDeleteGender inequality is decreasing in the advertisement arena. both girls and boys are potrayed in different roles thus promoting gender equality
ReplyDeletegender equality requires an approach that ensures girla and boys not only gain accesss to education but are empowered equally in and through education
ReplyDeleteFemales are used by advertising industry as comdity they r posed in adds where they are not concerned
ReplyDeleteThere is sociological
ReplyDeleteand biological differences between male and females but in real life both are portrayed different roles thus promoting gender equality
Gender Equality should start within the family at first, boy also have emotions and they do cry. They don't need to hide their emotions.
ReplyDeletegender equality is essential for economic prosperity.it is a human right
ReplyDeleteWe need to teach the society about the gender equality. Govt. must do something to avoid gender stereotypes in the advertisements.
ReplyDeleteOld spice advertisements are the typical examples of gender stereotypes. Even the fortune cooking oil advertisements showcase how the mother is always the one cooking and is in kitchen, supposed to take care of the family and while in other advertisements we can see chef is always a man. So, a woman can only be in kitchen but a chef is always a man.
ReplyDeleteWomen are mostly in the advertisements of detergents, kitchen products or the ones related to household chores whereas men are in the advertisements depicting business models, bikes, crs etc
ReplyDeleteWe generally see women in ads relating to beauty and men in ads for Cars. Earlier men were portrayed in the ads of sports shoes.
ReplyDeleteAll grocery items are generally having female leads.
Banking and electronic ads have male leads.
This social image discriminations should change and Cadbury has very cleverly encashed on it by changing the role of leads in its's iconic ad.
In advertisements men play the role of doctors , lawyers engineers and women play the role of homemaker , mother , maid
ReplyDeleteMost of the time men are involved in ads like bikes, cars, ads which depicts something strong are done by men viseversa women are involve in fairness ads ,kitchen related ads etc
ReplyDeleteMen can be seen more in ads displaying strength, power and financial field For example ads of bikes, cars, mutual funds, etc..whereas women portray the role of being a home maker being involved in ads of washing powder, spices, food, beauty products, clothes, jewellery etc. We are in 21st century but despite being given the status of gender equality, women are still portrayed in a stereotypical way in these ads.
ReplyDeleteMENS CRICET TEAM IS EVERYWHERE
ReplyDeleteWashing powder/detergent always show women washing clothes or using the washing machine, to the extent that small girls are also used for promoting detergents, on the other hand boys/men are used to promote cars and even if women are there, they are used only to show how they can enjoy a comfortable ride or use accessories in the car….totally socially constructed gender bias.
ReplyDeleteCars bikes are advertised by men and products for household works are advertised by women.
ReplyDeleteWomen shown in ads are too often "only housewives;" stupid or incompetent; dependent on men; decorative or sex objects; passive; and not involved in making major decisions. which is wrong and that is what the new generation learns. Males are shown as macho men who can do anything, this kind of portrayal must change.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteMedias can play significance role on gender equality .
ReplyDeleteIn schools also equal preference must be *given to both girls and boys
Society thinks that only men are capable of doing the work outside and women are only there to work at homes and be house makers. Modern society needs to change their ideology and start accepting the fact that women are equally capable of doing the work outside homes and make the country developed.
ReplyDeleteMen are always the decision makers of the house and women have to take the responsibility of outside and house hold both
ReplyDeletestereotypical roles are mostly played out in the advertisements. society is responsible for this. gender discrimination is so very inbuilt in the society that it has roots which are very deep, uprooting it would be difficult and result may not be as expected.
ReplyDeleteAdvertisement these days are focusing more on looks, rather than massaging. They are promoting gender stereotypes. Women are being treated as brand commodities.
ReplyDelete*Messaging
DeleteAdvertisements be it print or non print media is promoting gender stereotype with women as symbols of beauty and men as symbols of bravery.
ReplyDeleteSpecially in our country social norms depict male priority everywhere.ln advertisements which reflect thinking of society with adding popularity of objects ,we observe adds of kitchen appliances etc is revealed showing women only. Other objects like cars, mechanical and electronic objects are advertised showing men strength. Our society needs to bring all the genders in equality.
ReplyDeleteThis discrimination put in children's mind from their eary age .
ReplyDeleteAdvertisement play the significant role in it
ReplyDeleteGenerally pink color is associated with girls and blue with boys, even boys wearing colorful shirts are commented upon. Parents calling their girls as boys also shows that they mean boys are better than girls.
ReplyDeleteWhether we like it or not we live in a male dominated society. This is clearly evident in the advertisement that we see. Men are always have a macho image where they are performing daring tasks. Women on the other hand are portrayed as being timid and gentle . They appear in household advertisements where they are usually doing household chores.
ReplyDeleteDifferences are inculcated in the childhood only
ReplyDeleteGender discrimination in ads is clearly visible , for gender equity it has to be changed.
ReplyDelete1.In Mountain dews advertisement only men are seen doing stunts with caption "Dar ke aage jeet hai"
ReplyDelete2. In detergent advertisement women are shown using the product and promoting it.
3. In the advertisement of "Floor cleaner " oftenly women are seen doing household cleaning.
All of above are typically stereotypes advertisement.
Ye Dil Mange More. Why can't girls have all the fun. Very well said. There are ads which promote gender equality but still most of them are gender biased and men are shown in progressive roles. Need to first stop promoting such ads to have a gender equality and equity nation where men and women are shown in equal led roles for the nations progress and prosperity.
ReplyDeleteAdvertisements today have evolved a lot. From gender stereotypes like showing women washing clothes and cooking, we have shifted to more gender neutral roles in advertisements. While there is still a lot of scope for improvement, things have at least started to change for good.
ReplyDeleteAdvertisements segregate men and women on the basis of gender identity. They represent women as the society wants them to see and always represents with certain products baded on discrimination. Men are presented as strong and associated with only certain products.
ReplyDeleteSpecially in our country social norms depict male priority everywhere.ln advertisements which reflect thinking of society with adding popularity of objects ,we observe adds of kitchen appliances etc is revealed showing women only. Other objects like cars, mechanical and electronic objects are advertised showing men strength
ReplyDeleteMedia can play an important role in Gender sensitivity. Gender biased ads must not be telecasted in the media any more. For that there should be sensor boards which has gender sensitive persons.
ReplyDeleteThrough media it is mostly observed that women always performs more childcare than men in industrialized societies, women are believed to be more nurturer.
ReplyDeleteMedia plays an important role in gender sensitivity as it broadcasts the advertisement's of gender biased culture
ReplyDeleteIn socities mostly house hold work is bifurcated between men and women.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteBoth type of media cover Gender biased advertisments, for beauty/household devices/washing/house creators they focus on females while for responsibilities like Life or Medical Insurance/ Banking/ Coaching/house buildings they portray men.
ReplyDeleteGender equality is necessary in modern days.
ReplyDeleteboth roles and rules gender based, society glorifies gender discrimination, its all in mind, definitely needs change.
ReplyDeleteIn some advertisement power of women or their independence is shown.
ReplyDeleteAlways we are looking toward the add showing some different things....as for shampoo and dandruff girls are only having problems...for fragrance soaps only ladies are preferred..why the discrimination everywhere???
ReplyDeleteA recent ad of a deo for men which can be last long even during heavy sweating.. showing that only men can do tough work to sweat more, but not women.
ReplyDeleteWhile in ads related to food and nutrition of a family, females had to lead the ad, showing that females are the caretakers of health of family.
So, it’s a need of an hour to understand the meaning of gender, which is not related to only women and transgenders rather it’s a public issue. And since the media plays a major role in distribution of different roles to different gender, so showing a change in roles of men and women in ads could widely change the thinking of people.
Good
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter who got advertisement matter is who proves himself or herself. He or she got attention.
ReplyDeletemostly women are shown for beauty products ,doing household chores
ReplyDeletein case of tough work, men are given priority . this is racist :(
Advertisement related to vehicles are still dominated by men.
ReplyDeleteNeeds to give equal priority in every field

ReplyDeleteThis is a social evil, from childhood we discriminate even in our son and daughter.......this is a fact.So these kids when become adult represent the behavior they have been shown by family and society to them.So we should begin to evaluate them equally irrespective of their gender.
ReplyDeleteyes, yet a long way to go to overcome the social taboos. But, I can't ignore the companies and the media who are constantly striving for gender inclusion, for example Brooke Bond Red Label tea turns prejudice into acceptance. The advertisement is showing a transgender serving tea, at a traffic signal when it is heavily raining. Moreover, one of the veteran actress, Sarita Joshi is spreading positivism.
ReplyDeleteI strongly believe that one must learn to accept and appreciate the positive side of the society, no matter how less/small it maybe. And, that will always supersede the negativity anywhere.
Majority of them are gender biased
ReplyDeleteMen are shown to be physically and mentally strong and women are shown to be just dependent on men, weak in nature and projected as dressed up dolls. Advertisements segregate men and women on the basis of gender identity. They represent women as the society wants them to see and always represents with certain products . Men are presented as strong and associated with only certain products.
ReplyDeleteMen are portrayed to e stronger and women are given beauty products to show case.
ReplyDeleteMany ads are gender biased. Especially the one associated with cookery or washing utensils ot clothes are depicted women and working out in office, fighting for protection are shown men in a strong way.
ReplyDeleteEven NCERT is gender biased.
ReplyDeleteAlways...
3 men and 5 women can do a piece of work...
Why.
Until and unless Girls Education becomes mandatory and mindset of society perspective broadened regarding this concept of Awareness of Gender Discrimination I think we will be able to achieve our goal
ReplyDeleteMale dominates certain area in our culture. And are portrayed stronger.
ReplyDeletewe must have mandatory policy for Girls Education in our system so that the future generations may not face this gender discrimination.
ReplyDeleteMoreover women empowerment must be more focused in all areas of life.
It is still stereotype mindset mother's makes food and father's goes to office that mindset to be changed.
ReplyDeleteGender biased start from homeitself
ReplyDeleteKitchen set for girls
Car for boys
Add of fairness cream
In advertisement revolving around household items or work mostly women are shown and when it comes to luxury items like cars men are shown.
ReplyDeleteIn many advertisement women are portrayed as showcase.
Detergents, liquid soaps for utensils feature women whereas cars, bike feature men. Even specific colors belong mainly to girls (pink) while certain others belong to boys (blue)
ReplyDeleteAll Genders must be rtreated equally
ReplyDeleteNo matter what the portrayal is, men are paid higher than women. Mostly in the advertisements we see men going out and being the bread bearer of the family, whereas women are shown as the caretakers of the family. But things are changing nowadays.
ReplyDeleteWomen are still portrayed as only homemakers, though even that role is a very important one. Detergents, soaps, dairy products......mostly women are only seen in such advertisements.
ReplyDeleteAll Genders must be treated equally
ReplyDeleteIn most of the advertisement, females are misused
ReplyDeleteIn most of the ads related to home decor items or cooking materials always women are shown where as male and female both have equal contribution in home making.
ReplyDeleteWomen are still considered as homemakers.
ReplyDeleteThough we do try to break the shackles of stereotypes, we still find women centric roles for homely/ child oriented. most of male supremacy is shown in professional arena
ReplyDeleteGender stereotype is prevalent in most of the ads I have seen recently. Usually, women are shown as feminine, and they are mostly present in the ads related to beauty products, whereas men are shown in the ads related to intellectual things. But having said that, a shift can be seen in some recent ads. For example- Cadbury remade one of their old ad and showed a guy in the position of a woman. But how much these ads would be accepted by the public is still a very big question.
ReplyDeleteYes I too feel the same, the way gender role portrayed in ads its wrong
ReplyDeleteIt will take a long long time to change the mentality of society if we start today.
ReplyDeletePeople don't trust the ability of a female driver. Men usually crack jokes on them.
In TV Ads we can see wemen doing multitasking so they need health drink. Ads never show a man doing household chores. Our kids are growing seeing all this so they assume women are meant for taking care of home and kids.
Yes this is true. We really need to adopt gender inclusive approach in all schools and classrooms and must ensure gender equality among all the students. This discrimination and stereotyped mentality has been going since centuries and we are addressing it by the name of "Parampara" but we need to change it for new society and new development.
ReplyDeleteMedia advisements shows gender discrimination in some of the products. Cooking products mainly shows women but in vehicles healthy products we see men. We have to change our attitude in gender discrimination.
ReplyDeleteIt is a pity that even in 21st century the advertisements are showing gender discrimination
ReplyDeleteEven in the 21st century we have not changed our outlook even if we say that gender discrimination happens. The change should occur from our houses only then the society will change.
ReplyDeleteTv advertisements have traditionally focused on stereotypes of women cooking delicious meals while their husbands come home tired. Though there have been recent changes with advertising on gender neutral things like recent Cadbury advertisement.
ReplyDeleteWe see still same old thinking in advertising
ReplyDeleteIt is very painful to see that for selling the products like thermowears and innerwears ( Dollar ads) they are using feminine figures to promote and earmoney
ReplyDeleteThe Ad for Scooty, had a good tagline, why do boys have all the fun? There is a shift of course in the process.
ReplyDeleteMOST OF THE ADVERTISEMENTS DEMONSTRATE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MALE AND FEMALE JOBS. NOWHERE IT IS FOUND THE TRANSGENDER DOING ANY ADVERTISEMENT. THESE GENDER BIASED ADS SHOULD BE STRICTLY DEALT WITH .
ReplyDeleteUnless equality of gender is attained by the society, progress and peace will not reach the desired levels. Men and women should be considered as just humans who are capable of any level of education, sports, efficiency of accomplishments, emotions etc leaving the biological parameters aside. No specific choices or roles should be imposed based on genders and this change can be brought about only if gender equality starts from an early stage.
ReplyDeleteKinder joy is a chocolate product, famous among children. In the advertisement, they show a pink kinder joy package for the girls and a blue one for the boys. Moreover, the gifts opened by the girl are generally barbie dolls, rings and others which are considered for girls only. And for boys, they put gifts like cars, superheroes, airplanes, transformers, and so on. This shows the gender preference and exploit the very idea of equality and freedom of choice.
ReplyDeleteLook up popular advertisements in both print and non-print media
ReplyDeleteYes. Especially in media woman is included even in exclusive men products. She is considered show object. Sad that this percolates down our children. Truly biased. Hard to see woman doing car ad. It is always men.
ReplyDeletePlenty of TV advertisements have shown Gender biased prejudices. For a baby care or any kitchen related thing or any cooking related advertisement they show only women whereas for a bike car or any corporate jobs they prefer men doing it which shows discrimination.
ReplyDeleteWhile the advertisements portray Men as dominant and superior class with the duty of earning and brought up the family, classical masculine traits, Women are painted to be feminine with sublime Hint of submission and duty of supporting their better half and helping them in their endeavors.
ReplyDeleteBeauty products, fashion, things related to kitchen like cooking oil etc all are mainly endorsed by females whereas cars, bikes, acts of physical strength, are portrayed by men.
ReplyDeleteYou would think print advertising is void of innovation today, but that's actually not the case.
ReplyDeleteAll gender are equal
ReplyDeleteGender equality is a social term.
ReplyDeleteMen are portrayed as the powerful and hardworking, whereas women are soft natured and if they try to come out of four walls to work like others, then automatically she is considered as a person who is unusual in behavior.
ReplyDeleteGender bais should not be encouraged in our society
ReplyDeleteMen are given more consideration than women .
ReplyDeleteGender refers for both men and women get equal respect in society
ReplyDeleteEverything related to power, strength, reputation is always projected as men's domain
ReplyDeleteIn most of the advertisement men's are show's as powerful & women's are show's as delicate. This discrimination effects children's mind at early age.
ReplyDeleteAdvertisements are gender stereotypical in nature to appeal to appeal to masses as many are still in that mindset.
ReplyDeleteIn most of the advertisements men are generally shown in the roles of strength and machismo, wherein they promote cars and bikes and other stuffs like that. Women are depicted as good wives and mothers who are selling products like cooking oils, detergents, beauty products etc.
ReplyDeleteIt's high time that these biases are addressed.
Even in Schools We place an ad. for Receptionist as"Wanted smart female as Receptionist" as if males cannot work in this position in Schools. Here, females are portrayed as source of attraction to pull the crowd.
ReplyDeleteIn ads related to beauty soaps only females are shown.therefore portraying ads as gender stereotypes in nature
Gender stereotypes :Its begin from our homes . If these types of biases could be removed from our society, only then girls, boys and transgender can help in building a healthy and bias free society
ReplyDeleteAll the gender needs to be treated equally. However we see that most of the advertisement of vehicles are male dominated and women are seen mostly in the advertisement of beauty products and household kitchen products
ReplyDeleteMedia only shows what people want to watch. It's our fault and the responsibility is ours to change the notions of gender in the society. We talk big and do next to nothing to change the existing structure that discriminates between different genders. It's time to act up or shut up.
ReplyDeleteMedia is the representation of society at large. Men usually play machoistic roles, whereas women usually are depicted as good mother, good wife a good homemaker, there are gender roles assigned when it comes to advertisement, it sells coz our minds are conditioned for this. Change will start when we redefine the roles in our own homes.
ReplyDeleteGender bias is more on both the media's
ReplyDeleteMen are shown more couragious then women in many advertisement .Moreover in many adbertisements women are shown just home makers rather than working for family.
ReplyDeleteOur society needs to change their mindset. It is still showing women as subordinate . Advertisements play a major role in influencing people. Efforts must be made to show equality.
ReplyDeleteOur society is framed like that where there is a gender discrimination. As teachers we have to create awareness among our students.Media also plays a vital role.
ReplyDeleteWe have always seen men dominating the society. People need to understand that its unfair to discriminate. Most of the ads are shot with women where they are not even important. Change will be there when we start redefining the roles.
ReplyDeleteMany-adertisements-stereotype-the-cooking/washing-roles-justfor-ladies-whih-should-nothappen-asthe-world-and-theperspecties-are-changing.
ReplyDeleteMostly women are advertising detergent, sanitary napkin and washing dishes whereas men are showing as driving huge car like SUV and doing stunts.
ReplyDeleteThe advertisement has ideology of being what a woman can do such as cleaning, cooking etc.,.
ReplyDeletechange is definitely happening. nowadays men are also promoting detergents, toilet cleaning liquids etc. they are also having fairness creams etc. attachment to family and elders in family is also shown.
ReplyDeleteWomen are usually portrayed as objects of beauty or stereotyped as per social norms. But some changes are visible today and only attitudes built up through education can change perspectives.
ReplyDeleteIn todays society though we think that we have become modern and improved upon our thinking but still there are many people with sterotype mentality who thinks that women are only suited for some particular kind of work eg- household work , nurturing the children , they can't take decisions and give their opinion etcc. and same is being forcasted in the ads as well like women are doing the ads for washing powder and men are for bikes.
ReplyDeleteGender is very different from sex. This difference is seen as a perversion by many who fail to distinguish the difference.
ReplyDeleteBeauty and fairness ads by and for women, homemaker ads for women, office and car and bike ads by men etc. define social gender roles. But there are changes seen now with men cooking and doing laundry, women athletes, etc.
ReplyDeleteAs ads show male as a dominant role and female as a subordinate,we teachers should make the children understand both are equal
ReplyDeleteI have seen change in Advertisements. Washing powder, toilet cleaner ads are done by men which are giving message that men can also take care of home and family members. Same with ads which are giving message that women are going out and are successful in their career.
ReplyDeleteThere are ads like a girl drooling over men's underpants while the man is in the gym and on the other end we ads where a mother runs to keep her son motivated for running. So I guess we do find a shift in our perspective a long way to go.
ReplyDeleteIt is very good activity
ReplyDeleteEven in 21st century , there is not proper gender equality. Women are only chosen in advertisements as picture of beauty , softness and as house workers only . While men are showed as more superior one's as used in ads with strength and superiority .
ReplyDeleteRoles are not to be limited by what the society thinks and expects but to be determined by the capabilities and skills of a person. Time to break shackles of gender
ReplyDeleteYes I too agree with it that why in the advertisements of offices and cars only men are choosen to play the role... Why not women
ReplyDeletein the advertisements related to food , toiletries, creams - generally women play a lead role and when it is like construction materials like cement, or something related to physical strength, men play a lead role. Men are portrayed as epitome of strength whereas women are shown as soft natured and care takers.
ReplyDelete
